APARTMENT DECORATING

Christopher Lowell from Interior Motives suggested that if you are going to be there a while and you know it. Just forget about your deposit and do what you want. After all, it is your home. Paint makes the biggest difference. Get away from that apartment white.

The key to apartment decorating is not letting it control you but you control it. Everything that isn't permanate doesn't have to look as if it isn't. Make it YOUR HOME!

Try using colored bulbs in existing fixtures. It will give the room a whole new look and take away some of that white.

You could wall paper with fabric and liquid starch. When you are ready to leave or just want to wash it, it peels right off. Take it to your next home.

Does it need life? Give it to it! Add plants (palms, etc). Place uplights behind it on the floor and use colored bulbs in them. There is a variety of colors on the market that you could try. This will furnish the ceiling!

Can't have holes in the walls? Velcro it! Peel and stick.

Ugly carpet? Find an area rug and use that ugly stuff for the border around it. Suddenly it becomes your accent color even tho that was what you wanted to get rid of.

Windows? Can't change the rods. Fine. Take them down and use spring tension rods inside the frame. Velcro a valance to the molding.

Bathroom? You can change the knobs or pulls on the doors and drawers and take them with you when you leave. Plants do well in the moisture.

Kitchen? Bathroom idea works too. Velcro pictures on the refridgerator.

Try different arrangements with your furniture. Will make a big difference.

Furniture? Don't put all small in a small room. It will make it look smaller. Get bold and really furnish! EX: Use a large armoir in a small room. Make it the focal point of the room. Your attention is drawn to it instead of to the size of the room. Use personal touches to add personality and charm to the small space.
